Best College Tips to Feel Free in Your New College

One of our favorite things about working at TopWritersReviews.com is helping new students find the best resources for getting academic help. We know that the first year attending college can be intense and full of challenges. If you are a new college student, you are learning to navigate situations that you have never faced before. What we would like to do is provide some great advice for new college students. Think of this post as a bit of a survival guide for incoming freshman. Anyway, without further ado, here is our advice for new university students.

Get Ahead Academically With These 10 Study Tips For College Students

  • If a class is difficult consider joining or organizing a study group. You might learn more in a group.
  • Use an app like Evernote to take notes and keep them well organized.
  • When you are in the middle of an intense study session, don't forget to eat and drink enough water.
  • Break larger study tasks such as research papers and essays up into manageable chunks.
  • If you are struggling with an assignment get help from your school's writing, student success center or a writing service.
  • If you have trouble focusing on your school work in your room, try heading to the library or a local cafe.
  • Use an app to take pictures of the white board in your class to get a quick snapshot of the notes you need to take.
  • Study while walking around. You will keep yourself more alert and engaged than if you were just sitting at a desk.
  • Your professors are there to help. Don't be afraid to email them or contact them during their office hours.
  • Know when to stop studying. You really can study too long. Don't exhaust yourself by going over the same material over and over again.

Learn to Mange Your Money

You will save yourself so much misery if you learn how to manage your money properly. Open a bank account, have your checks deposited, and sign up for online banking. Then, use an app like Mint to track your money.

Get Involved

There are so many activities, clubs, and organizations that you can get involved with. Try joining a few. You will meet new people, and have something to do. If you are shying away from joining and participating because you weren't that “that person” in high school, get over it. Getting involved in college doesn't make you a prep or a sell-out. It just makes you a person with interests and hobbies.

Stay in Touch

Stay in touch with your friends and family members back home. They are your touchstones. No maftter how busy you are, make a dedicated effort to call, message, or interact with the people you love on Facebook, Instagram, and SnapChat. If you see people who are also lonely and homesick, encourage them to do the same.

Not Everybody Parties

Never feel like you have to indulge or go to parties. This is the last of our tips for new college students. If you are straight edge, stick with it. You can still have fun in college without drinking or doing drugs.
